Julie's "petite" tips

My advice number 0/ is first and foremost to treat yourself!

0/ Treat yourself!

Just because you're short doesn't mean you can't wear long skirts or dresses. Just because you're short doesn't mean you can't wear oversized or loose-fitting styThe. The most important thing is to wear clothes you feel good in. Above all, enjoy yourself! That's the basic rule!

1/ Going overboard with high-waisted stockings

High-waisted stockings are particularly well-suited to smaller body types. Wearing high-waisted stockings lengthens the legs by optical illusion

High-waisted pants and jeans

And of course, there's no reason not to wear wide, straight cuts. When pants are sufficiently high-waisted, they don't settle at all! See for yourself!

High-waisted skirts

Contrary to what Cristina Cordula has been telling us for years, midi-length and long skirts also outfit great on petites. Just remember to wear them at the waist, because if they come down to the hips, they tend to pack in. The problem, of course, is finding long skirts at the right length for a little girl.

2/ Marking the size

Remember to mark the waistline. To do this, tuck tops, tee-shirt-shirts and shirts into your stockings. If your tee-shirt-shirts and shirts are much too big, don't hesitate to tie them around your waist.

For dresses, choose cuts with a marked waist, whether short or long (and to follow the advice 1/ as high-waisted as possible!) petites can wear midi and long dresses, as shown in these images!

You can also wear loose-fitting cuts (coats, dresses, tunics, shirts, blazers) and cinch them up with a pretty belt to emphasize the waist.

3/ Balance close-fitting and oversized pieces

Oversize isn't just for tall women!

Remember to balance close-fitting pieces with fuller ones. For example, pair a loose-fitting top with skinny / slim-fitting jeans. On the other hand, if you're wearing wide-leg pants or jeans, wear a close-fitting top or bodysuit to balance things out.

And don't forget to mark the waistline.

4/ Think only of verticality

Any piece that adds verticality to an outfit has the optical effect of elongating the silhouette.

For this, favor pieces that bring that vertical side; namely shirts, vests, cardigans and jackets. Wear them open to further accentuate that vertical edge.

And don't be afraid to wear button-down shirts or dresses - they're even better!

5/ Wear monochrome outfits

Colors are more a question of skin tone than size. When you're small, you can of course wear any color you like. However, it's advisable to respect a certain color harmony. Indeed, if the top and bottom colors are too contrasting, a visual break is created between the top and bottom and will tend to pack. To avoid this, opt for monochrome and try to wear the same color for the top as for the bottom. Dresses and jumpsuits are ideal for this trick!

We also don't hesitate to wear outfits: plain or printed, to keep the top and bottom unique.

6/ Enjoy small prints

It's best to wear small prints when you're small. Avoid XXL prints, which tend to "drown" us. And of course, we're crazy about prints with vertical stripes , which optically add verticality to the outfit.

7/ Wear flat shoes if you feel like it

Yes to heels, but they don't have to be. Flat shoes are also great for petite women! Flat boots, moccasins, derbies and sneakers. There's something for everyone!

To avoid weighing down the silhouette, opt for slim shoes. Avoid shoes that are too massive and voluminous, high platforms or high block heels.

8/ The little extra provided by accessories

Choose fine jewelry with a vertical edge: long necklaces, dangling earrings and so on. But don't be afraid to wear chunky jewelry if you feel like it. On the other hand, we always remember to balance everything out: a large knitwear necklace with ear chips or, on the contrary, voluminous earrings with a thinner necklace.

When it comes to bags, opt for small shoulder bags for practicality (it's a good thing that nano-sized bags are in vogue) or medium-sized bags for everyday use. It's always a question of proportion.

9/ And what about the hairstyle?

When you're a little girl, it's best to avoid the "long, straight hair" haircut (my haircut, in fact) because it tends to pack things in. The ideal is to have short hair and a cut that adds volume. The punk crest is the extreme hairstyle that makes it easy to give the illusion of grandeur.

In terms of hairstyThe, we adopt "trompe l'œil" styThe such as high buns and high ponytails that allow us to "gain" a few centimetres.

10/ It's all a question of balance

It's all about balance! As mentioned in point 0/, the most important thing is to choose clothes you love and want to wear. Even if, at first glance, you fall in love with a piece that doesn't suit a little girl, there are always solutions to adapt it to her morphology!
